Why was the 13th Cyprus Golf Classic a fantastic success
The 13th Cyprus Golf Classic played in April was again a roaring success due mainly to the wonderful participants who made the week exciting and exhilarating.
The week began with a cocktail reception on arrival hosted by the excellent Alexander the Great Hotel in Paphos providing us with complimentary drinks and food for all 70 people.
The next day was a free day followed by an evening at a local Cypriot taverna for our Meze where the food just kept coming. It was great way for everyone to get to know and familiarise themselves with each other.
The next day the golf began with a Texas Scramble team event played at the wonderful Aphrodite Hills golf club as many teams headed to the last neck and neck with the victors scoring 59.1 points, Darren Child, Trevor Ray, Carrie Eccleshall & Fay Hill.
The second days’s golf was another team event, Betterball played on the new Faldo designed Elea course, with his love of bunkers where ever a gap appeared it certain to be a test. However it did not stop Mackay Duff and Brenda Neill with a combined age of 154 years (hope they wont mind us divulging that info) from running away with the trophy with an incredibly score of 44 points.
After another relaxing day off for everyone it was time for the singles with one round to be played on each course. On the first day Sheri Bowditch with 44 points was our runaway leader by 5 shots, unfortunately she was unable to sustain her great golf on the first day and was out scored by the overall winner who came storming through winning by 5 clear shots with a 74 total from both days, that was Steve Critchell from Newbury & Crookham Golf Club.
Players were not informed of the winners until the trophy presentation made prior to the Gala Evening, again hosted by the hotel along with a Gala Evening offering a Cypriot night with full buffet and as much wine as could be consumed.
Our thanks must go out to the hotel, their management and staff who went way beyond to look after us all throughout the week.
Nearly all the participants are looking to re-book for next year and are therefore now in the process of preparing the 14th Cyprus Golf Classic when dates will be released soon.
Anyone looking to book please email us on tournament@exclusivegolf.co.uk

Play a romantic round of golf in Venice
We are sure you would not consider playing golf in one of the most romantic cities in the world especially when you believe it’s surrounded by water.
How wrong you would be as there are five superb golf course in the province of Venice and another 30 in the region.
The beautiful city renown for it’s magnificent sights as the Grand Canal with it’s unique bridges the most pictured being the Rialto Bridge that must be experienced by either water buses or the famous gondolas.
A visit to the ancient squares where possibly the most famous is St. Marks Square and the Basilica a must to visit or simply sit in one of the restaurants that engulfed the square and listen to the musicians.
A short hope back to the lido from Venice Island is the Venice GC a golf course that has attracted the likes of Bing Crosby, Henry Cotton, Duke of Windsor and Seve, Palmer and Trevino.
My favourite Golf Courses from around the world
After my experiences of 30 years in the travel industry I feel qualified to give my opinion on some of the finest golf courses I have played.
I have been very fortunate to have travelled most of the world playing some of the best golf courses, from links, Parkland, Heathland, Desert and even had a round of ice golf in Greenland, that was an experience.
However my favourites and in no particular order are Leopards Creek & Pezula Resort in South Africa, TPC Sawgrass & Seminole in Florida, Turberry Ailsa & Royal Durnoch in Scotland, Pinehurst & Ocean at Kaiwah Island in South Carolina, Ballybunnion & Royal County Down in Ireland, Valderrama in Spain and Casa do Campo in the Dominican Republic.
I am not surprised they have all voted in the world’s top 100 courses by Golf Digest in 2009 and for me to choose one from them would be disrespectful to the others as they are fantastic courses. I believe every golfer looking for a golf break or golf holidays should take the opportunity to play some of these fantastic courses.
Other courses outside the top 100 but definately must be played are San Lorenzo in the Algrave, Penha Longa and Oitavos in Lisbon.
Worldwide I would select White Witch & Half Moon in Jamiaca, Le Touessrok in Mauritius, Blue Monster at Doral in Miami, Majlis in Dubai and TPC Stadium at Fairmont in Scottsdale.
I do hope that has wetted the appetite for all you golfers with just a taste of what you can paly if you looking to travel on a golf holiday in the near future.

10 reasons why your travel insurance may not cover you
Travel insurance is there for those unfortunate moments that you may need it but the trouble with travel insurance is the fine details that may invalidate a claim.
1. The Activity exclusions such as bungee jumping, whitewater rafting, cycle touring, parascending etc are hidden away in the small print.
2. If you have an accident and its found you had been drinking then this too could be excluded by insurers.
3. Many claims fail due to lack of evidence or supportive documents from police or airline staff.
4. If you are travelling alone may due to a split with your spouse and are with your children then there could be an expected gap in the cover.
5. It is advisable to check the excess offered by insurers for excess of any claim as it could vary from £50 to £200 per claim.
6. Try and make your claim as soon as possible as insurers have varing time limits so present the claim.
7. Insurers say the most common reason for a claim to fail initially is due to wrongly completed forms.
8. On a golf break or golf holiday check your policy includes full cover for golf clubs and liability insurance if your ball strikes another golfer or spectator.
9. The most common problem for rejected claims are for existing medical conditions when not declared prior to travel for authorisation.
10. Be aware that policy do not cover for airline failure or the other charges you may incur such as accommodation, car hire as a result.
The 3rd in the series of “My Favourites” blog on Transatlantic Airlines
The 3rd in the our series of ”MY FAVOURITES” hotels, destinations, holiday, airlines, families, golf courses, golf breaks, spas, honeymoons, safari and many many more from my experiences of 30 years in the travel industry.
I have chosen this airline for a number of reasons as it has resisted serious competition and sometimes dirty tricks by other airlines over the years, yet it has come through all of this maintaining its high standards, that’s Virgin Atlantic.
It began with being the friendly family airline with its children’s themes offering free bag, colouring books, toys and was the first airline to introduce the TV set in the rear of seats in economy cabins.
Another first was the introduction of Premium Economy cabins for the passenger wanting more than economy at an affordable price and their Upper Class product is excellent with chauffeur car pickups. The Upper Class lounges are an experience in themselves with their futuristic layout along with many unique facilities such as beauty treatments, stylish bars and dining.
For me it’s also about the service which I cannot fault, of course I am not naive to the fact that not everything goes to plan with any airline however I’ve been fortunate enough not to have experience that yet.
For all our avid golfers who love their golf holidays or mini golf breaks Virgin carry golf clubs for free unlike many others that charge.
There are a wide choice of US destinations served by Virgin Atlantic from Orlando, Miami. Boston, New York, Washington, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Franscisco.
Of course the service to the Caribbean is just as impressive as they fly to Antigua, Barbados, St. Lucia, Montego Bay, Grenada, Tobago and Havana.
The new series of “MY FAVOURITES” begins with today’s blog on HOTELS
This is the start of our new series of ”MY FAVOURITES” hotels, destinations, holidays, golf breaks, families, golf courses, spas, honeymoons, safari and many many more from my experiences of 30 years in the travel industry.
Today’s series begins with “MY FAVOURITES” – Hotels and in no particular order I will be writing blogs over the coming months starting with one of the best the One&Only St.Geran in Mauritius. All the staff from the porter on arrival right up to the managers of each department are aware of your name, likes, dislikes, birthday and anything else that would make the stay effortless. You are then allocated your own 24 hour a day butler who is on hand to attend to your every need from unpacking the luggage to arranging your evening dining. My favourite accommodation are the Ocean Front Junior Suites a room that sits directly on the beach were we can take breakfast on the terrace with your feet in the sand overlooking the ocean. For evening dining there are a choice of the daily buffet with its changing menus themes from around the world or the fine dining restaurant by Alain Ducasse one of France’s leading Michelin star chefs. If you enjoy wellness the resort also offers the superb Givenchy Spa with its 8 treatment rooms offering all types of treatments and massages, great rejuvenation after a hard day sunbathing or for golfers on a golf holiday or golf break the hotels 9 hole golf course is a little gem.
Look out over the coming months for the next Hotel we will publish in the ”MY FAVOURITES” series and my next feature will be Honeymoons and Spas.
Next in my little series of “MY FAVOURITES” is on Honeymoon destinations
We recognise the importance of a great honeymoon: A once in a lifetime trip that allows you to really ‘push the boat out’ whether you enjoy unique safaris or fascinating tours, idyllic hideaway or small, character hotels.
My experiences have discovered beautiful and exotic destinations in the Indian Ocean such as Mauritius, Maldives and Seychelles, and in the Caribbean islands such as St. Lucia, Barbados, Jamaica and Antigua. Of course there are other super honeymoon destinations in Thailand, Hawaii, Bahamas and Las Vegas.
Of course not to be out done are destinations in Europe that are every bit as beautiful as its exotic partners. Some of my particular favourites are the island of Sardinia, Venice, Florence and Crete.
So from the list above I would have to say that Constance Le Prince Maurice in Mauritius from the exotic destinations, as I have just booked my daughter to stay there for her honeymoon. In Europe I would favour the Hotel Baglioni in Venice another magical honeymoon destination, although close behind is Lake Como with its stunning location ideal for a honeymoon.
